  • Launched the city’s new Economic Development Action Plan to promote local businesses and local investment.
  • Created the Grants Director role, delivering over $90 million to date.
  • Advocates for more state funding for Beverly’s public schools, transportation, and other city needs.
  • Serves on state’s Energy Transformation Board, working to lower energy costs and modernize the electric grid.

Mayor Cahill’s Commitment to our Beverly Public Schools

I am genuinely committed to strengthening our public schools, and I recognize that more resources are still needed.  I am determined to help provide all the resources our schools need.  I will work diligently and with all stakeholders in our community to try to increase our school funding to where it is equivalent to the state average per pupil expenditure.  I commit myself to making this among the highest goals of our city’s first four year Mayoral term, if I am re-elected as your Mayor.  I know we all want our children to have access to a world class education and for our community to thrive.  I ask you all for the opportunity to work with our schools and our Beverly community on this effort.

In a couple of weeks, the city’s annual financial forecasting process will kick off.  This has always been a public process, and we have asked BevCam to televise all the meetings and discussions over the next several weeks.  As we strive to identify and dedicate more resources to our schools, increasing community engagement and building a broader understanding of the city’s finances will help in this effort.

My parents instilled in my brothers and me the importance of public education; we all graduated from Beverly High School, and I taught and coached in the Beverly schools.
As Mayor, I established our Summer Literacy Program, and with our own teachers and paraprofessionals leading the way, over the last 11 years we have provided well over 1000 young Beverly learners with high quality literacy instruction every morning along with an afternoon summer camp experience at the Greater Beverly Y.  As your Mayor, I spend time frequently in our classrooms, to observe and learn, so I can better serve our community and help strengthen one of our most important resources – our Beverly Public Schools.  

I am excited to work with our educators, with our families and our community to elevate our schools to become among the best school districts anywhere.  Please vote to re-elect me as your Mayor next Tuesday, November 4th.  Thank you.
